Fell asleep and almost didn't read sms!
|
|
|
It's 2a.m. and I'm eating a piece of croissant with jam and butter, 'cuz I'm 'temaning' Hairie berbuka puasa in spirit
I received the initial text message from him at almost 11pm MY time (4pm UK time), but I had fallen asleep. I woke up at a quarter past 1am and fumbled quickly to check the buka puasa time for him and reply hehehe. Nasib baik sempat let him know in time! Oh and Hairie... once you get internet connectivity you may want to bookmark this page for easy access to local prayer times and such. Very helpful for whenever I'm traveling.
His other sms-es that followed made me wanna cryyyyy huuuuu (and also made me wanna hop on the first flight there and give him a hug!). But a few 'sense and nonsense' replies from me and hopefully that boy will be fine... the most I can do right now is teman him makan albeit virtually haha!
You hang in there my friend! Everything will be great... for fish&chip's sake you're in ENGLAND!!! I can't imagine of a better place to be (hmmm but yes the weather may be a bit of a challenge for you... hehehe just try to keep yourself as warm as possible by bundling yourself up!!). Take it day by day, and before you know it you'll be right at home over there. And don't worry, we'll keep a steady stream of videos coming to cheer you up hahaha *glomps*
I've added to my list of top priorities to save up and fly to the UK next year and visit bohaha! So Hairie, you make sure you have a hot Brit lad ready for me when I get there (alamak curang pula kepada Enchik Brindian...)
## For pictures of Hairie's send-off at the airport last night, head to my flickr page.
## Weird's pictures on her flickr set
## Eema has hers in her IMDB-esque entry hehehe
## And don't forget our Trimontels Original Movie, which we burned onto a disc as Hairie's farewell gift . Watch it here

The day started off pretty uneventfully, merely worked during the day. Later on I took the tram to the city to meet up with Izhar, who was shopping with Tia and Pia, and get his apartment keys from him. Then I bought a sandwich for buka puasa, and walked to his apartment. I broke fast alone at his house as I had a teleconference right after buka. So I took the call whilst having my meal. Izhar and the rest had their meal at the Cili Padi restaurant, whilst Amir ate on his own.
After buka everyone gathered back at Izhar's apartment. I'd finished my telecon, and we hung out for a short while before taking the tram to Southbank. I was madly craving Greco's mars bar cheesecake, hence my dragging everyone down to the Crown casino center and plopping ourselves down at the restaurant for some uberlicious dessert.
Initially Izhar was saying we could try catch a movie or something after dessert... but then we took our time eating our potato wedges and cakes and had so much fun just chit-chatting away, we didn't realize the time! It was about 10.30 when we finally left the restaurant.
Instead of going back to Izhar's house with the rest, Amir and I decided to go to Rod Laver Arena again because the Silverchair & Powderfinger concert was going on that night. We initially thought about buying tickets to watch the concert, but they were sold out and can only be bought on ebay.. and the price was pretty steep. I REALLY wanted to watch Silverchair, but didn't care too much if I got to watch Powderfinger or not. So after deliberating it over with Amir, we decided we'll just give this concert a miss and wait for a full Silverchair concert instead or something. Heheh.
Anyway, we still thought, let's just go to the arena and buy merchandise. We'll wait till the concert finished, then ask the security guys if they'd let us in just to get to the merchandise booth. So with that plan in mind, we headed to the arena and reached there at around 10.45pm. Upon arrival, we saw that cars were still parked at the carparks, and getting closer to the stadium we heard music coming out of it. Which meant that the concert was still going on... so we thought, okay we'll just hang around for a while outside, wait for it to end, then go in and get our t-shirts.
Once we got to one of the entrances, we noticed that the doors were wide open and the security bars were up.. and there wasn't anyone standing around to guard the place. So we thought, heck.. let's just walk in then and buy our t-shirts now. So we walked in... walked to the merchandise booth, and then one of the security guys came up to us and said, "You guys aren't gonna want to miss this, Silverchair's just come back on stage for an encore with Powderfinger". Hahaha! So Amir and I looked at each other and said in Malay, "jom kite masuk!". So we quickly bought our t-shirts, Amir slipped his on, and then we casually walked in and watched the encore performance of the show! Silverchair and Powderfinger performing together for a finale! For free!! Wooot!
Needless to say Amir and I were sooo psyched when we walked out of the arena when the concert ended hahaha. Serious rase bangge dapat 'gatecrash' a concert in Melbourne And by the way we were singing Silverchair songs when we walked back to Flinders Street to catch a tram tu macam penuh gaya orang pegi concert from start to finish lah hahahaa. Poyo jer But the t-shirts were prettiiiii we loffs our t-shirtssss....
On the walk back we passed by the front of the Pixar exhibition, so took some snaps of me with the famous cute Pixar lamp. Pastu kitorang naik tram to Melbourne Central and walked back to Izhar's apartment. All of us slept there that night since it was our final night together. Awwww..

Another Melbourne Trip - Day 5
|
|
This is one rare Monday that I didn't have the blues!
-> Both Amir and I went back to bed after sahur, but got up fairly early to start the day. I was going to go work from SITI's Melbourne office, and Amir said he'd tag along to show me where it was. Once I'd gotten to the office he left and went about the city doing his own stuff.
-> Took the tram to Melbourne Central, and then took the train to Glenferrie Road where the office is. Met my fellow colleagues there, it was great getting to put faces to the names I've heard of via emails and such. They're all a friendly bunch, and helped me get settled in, with a desk and a phone. I forgot to take any pictures of the insides of the office though!!! Yes, I was that busy.
-> Oh and I had a surprise of the day when Simon Leong, a fellow friend from work here in Malaysia, appeared at the office there! Of all people to bump into! Apparently he was there on holiday, and decided to pop into the office too to meet people and such. Heheh. Cool stuff.
-> I worked right through the afternoon, hardly pausing and squeezing as much in as possible as I wanted to leave the office early. Wanted to make sure I'd make it back in time for buka puasa (wasn't familiar with Melbourne's rush hour or transport schedules so I didn't wanna risk it), as well as so that I'd have time to freshen up and get ready for the long-anticipated night!
-> Arrived home, had a quick wash and a change, and then Amir and I took the tram to Izhar's apartment for buka puasa. After finishing our meal, we walked out and met up with two of Amir's friends who were going with us to the Snow Patrol concert.
-> Took the jam-packed tram to Rod Laver Arena, the concert venue. Doors opened at 7pm but we arrived a little after 8pm...The first opening act, Iain Archer, was already playing. I decided to buy my merchandise first to avoid possible disappointments of sold-out items or last-minute rushes at the end of the concert. Only after getting our t-shirts did Amir and I walk into the arena. We had general admission tickets, which mean the standing floor area. Surprisingly enough when we walked in, we could still get to near the front. Yeay!
-> Silversun Pickups was the second opening act. I've never seen them play before, and their set was good. Lead singer Brian was pretty entertaining with his random rants and jokes heheh. But what really caught my attention was their drummer Chris. He reminded me of this boy back in uni whom we nicknamed 'Baddy Powder' (ingat tak dia Eema, Muna??).. but with more energy hahaha. You should've seen him on the drums... some crazy head-swinging stuff he can do. Impressive!
-> We waited and waited and Snow Patrol finally came on at 9.20pm. Whilst waiting, I overheard some of the people around me saying, "when are they gonna start already? why are these bands playing??" and stuff like that. Hehe. Terasa je nak ckp.. chill lah, ini la namenye concert. Ada opening act, pastu kene set up instruments, roadie2 nak susun cables, lekat set list... memang la standard main act start kol 9.30 so that habis dalam kol 11. Savvy?
-> Amir and I were standing about 5-6 rows of people from the front of the stage.. and we said to each other, let's just wait until Snow Patrol starts playing and people starts jumping around and then we can squish our way to the front.. like we usually do at Malaysian concerts, right?
-> Well... surprisingly enough, when SP came on, yes there were some mild screaming going on.. but when the music started, people didn't really move! I was jumping about like a madwoman when I realized, eh.. orang lain tak himpit2 lompat2 pun..tak sangka rakyat concert kat Melbourne ni sopan santun. So Amir and I were pretty much stuck there 'cuz we'd feel so guilty if we moshed our way to the front. Orang lain tak tolak2 tibe2 ade dua ekor budak asia ni himpit2... mahu taknye kene pukul hahaha. But we were standing at a good spot and it was still very close to the stage anyways, so it wasn't too bad. Masih boleh nampak jambang enchek Gary!
-> Needless to say I didn't let their sopan-santun-ness stop ME from enjoying the concert. So I danced and screamed and jumped away... pastu the girls around me sort of moved away a bit to make room for me to lompat2 hehehe takut aku terpijak kaki diorang kot Sorry nyahs... I've come from a land faaar faaaar away to see this concert to let it go by without me totally feeling it!
-> Enchek Gary Lightbody sungguh hemsemmm tahap salji gebuuuuu and when he came to our side of the stage ohmygod he was sooo clooooseee uuuuuuhhhh I meltiiiiiiiingggg laik gooey puddinggggg
-> Enchek Nathan was on our side of the stage all the time so I also drooled all over his guitar playing yang ohsungguhsexymaut kenape sedap sangat dia main guitar bunyian nan indah (backing vocals nan merdu juga lalalaa)
-> Oh yeah. Gary ada janggut... tak tahu la sempena bulan puasa ke ape ke dia nak simpan jambang bakalakadaka... cuma takde turban je. At times when I was watching him, he reminded me of Smek. Waahahaha!
-> Concert ni serious best gilerrrrr.. the sound was awesome.. crisp clear... even though we were standing right up front, the loudness tak berdengung mcm some concerts here tahap lebam eardrums (remember We Are Scientists babes? Mcm bangang soundman tak reti balance...). SP's set was tight... they are just superbly awesome blossom and I lovvvveddd it! If they had played for two nights I'd have gone and bought tickets to the next night just so that I can watch it all over again yosh!
-> Once it ended (all too soon, too soon! *sob*), I was sweating for the first time since I set foot in Melbourne on this trip. Heheh.
-> Okay.. set list (if I remember correctly.. I know the starting songs and encore is correct.. but the middle ones might get a bit jumbled up.. sorry, I was a bit too excited... but these are the songs they played) :
Hands Open
Chocolate
It's Beginning To Get To Me
Headlights On Dark Roads
Signal Fire
Grazed Knees
How To Be Dead
Tiny Little Fractures
Spitting Games
Chasing Cars
Shut Your Eyes
Make This Go On Forever
Set The Fire To The Third Bar
Run
(encore)
The Finish Line
Open Your Eyes
You're All I Have
-> The Melbourne crowd weren't very familiar with most of the songs off Final Straw.. not that many people sang along. Chasing Cars (obviously) got the largest singalong of the night... Signal Fire got recognition too, I guess thanks to it being on the Spiderman movie. I'm just happy they played my extreme faves like Chocolate, Spitting Games, Run, and You're All I Have.
-> Amir and I walked all the way up along the river back to Flinders Street 'cuz there were too many people getting on trams right near Rod Laver Arena itself... we didn't want to bother with the crowd. Once at Flinders it was a bit easier to catch a tram to Swanston and La Trobe... stopped by Izhar's apartment again to swap my jacket (I'd borrowed Izhar's hoodie for the concert), and then Amir and I headed back to College Square.

Didn't have anything major planned for the day...
-> Amir and I went to Victoria Market and had a browse around. I didn't buy anything... takde pape that I really wanted pun. Aside from the hot jam doughnuts *drool*. But puasa kan. So mcm. Damn. Had to forgo that. Next trip!!
-> Waited for Izhar, Pia, Tia and Zaim to arrive. They were a bit late, so after a quick meet up Amir and I decided to leave them there to shop and we walked to Burke Street instead.
-> Dropped by my must-go stores; Sanity, Virgin Music, and HMV. Bought a bunch of CDs and DVDs. I am now contented and very happy.
-> Walked around whilst waiting for Izhar et al to finish at Victoria Market. We initially planned on going to St Kilda ramai2... but then it started to get late and cloudy and rain seemed inevitable, so we scratched that idea 'cuz it wouldn't have been worthwile going all the way there and just getting wet and cold.
-> Pia and Zaim stayed home, whilst Izhar, Pia, Amir and myself decided to head to the DFO at Spencer Street instead. Took a tram down, walked around and mainly window shopped.
-> When we came back out to get a tram back, it was drizzling and EXTREMELY WINDY! The winds were sooo strong, we could lean into it and not fall. Sejuk tahap ais kacang special juga.
-> We were thinking about what to have for buka puasa today, and Izhar suggested Sawasdee. The thought of a steaming hot tom yam to warm our freezing selves down was too tempting to resist. Tia and Zaim didn't join us, and had buka at home instead.
-> Headed back to La Trobe after buka, then I decided to bake cookies. Had a dig around the kitchen to see what was in stock, and then walked down to Safeway with Izhar to buy some ingredients. Came back and made a batch of peanut butter & choc chip cookies.
-> Amir and I left Izhar's house at around midnight to head back to College Square.

3rd day... sorry sikit je gambar. Heheh. I mean it's just day-to-day stuff, no special jalan-jalan or whatever.
-> Amir and I finished off the leftover lasagna for sahur... then went back to sleep.
-> Woke up a bit late, and since it's a Saturday, I didn't have to log in to work or anything.
-> Got a message from William saying he's already in the city. We'd agreed to meet for dinner, but since they were around and I had nothing planned, I walked the few blocks down to Chinatown and met him there. He brought his friend Praveen along, who is from IBM India but currently assigned to a project with Shell. Both of them are based in Geelong.
-> Brought them to the Laguna shop 'cuz they wanted to find lots of Asian foodstuff.. apparently there aren't as many options in Geelong, and the prices are a bit more expensive.
-> After shopping, we didn't want to have to carry all the bags around so I took them to Izhar's apartment and they left their groceries there for the time being.
-> Took them walking around the CBD. Boleh.. they were expecting me to be their tour guide! Haha.. sape yang visitor ni?
-> By 5.30pm we headed over to Bismi's, where Izhar, Amir, Pia, Tia, and Zaim all came and joined us for buka puasa. Izhar suggested that restaurant 'cuz it had vegetarian options (Praveen is vegetarian), it was halal, and he was craving nasi briyani hehe.
-> After dinner, Izhar and Pia took Tia and Zaim walking down Swanston. Amir and I walked with William and Praveen back to Izhar's house to pick up their groceries. They wanted to catch the early train back to Geelong so could not join us for after-dinner desert and entertainment!
-> After saying our goodbyes to the two, Amir and I walked to Hard Rock Cafe and waited for Izhar et al to join us there. They took quite a while so we walked over to the Princess Theatre where Phantom of the Opera is playing, 'cuz I wanted to check out the merchandise
-> Walked back to Hard Rock. We managed to get a bar-table for 6, and we ordered drinks, some ice cream and a sundae brownie (which Amir called you about, Ma!) to share. Watched the live band perform... they were quite good! Just a three-piece all-male band, very rock, so they played a variety of rock songs both current and old.
-> We didn't stay long, as Pia had work to do and Amir wanted to get back to his computer too. Split up when we left, Izhar et al heading to their house and Amir and myself stopping by at King's Kebab on the corner to tapau me some food for sahur, then took the tram back to College Square.
-> Balik pastu menggigil and bungkus diri dalam duvet. Rumah Amir sejuk! *brr brr*

Okay... second day here...
-> Woke up at 4am for sahur with Amir. We had a chicken BBQ pizza (Amir and I walked out late last night to buy a couple of pizzas from a pizza parlour on the corner of Lygon. They were half-priced so it's a good deal! We gave one pizza to Izhar to bring home after his meeting)
-> Woke up, did some work until mid-afternoon. Just logged in from home again, didn't go to the office.
-> Later in the day, followed Amir to Brunswick to go to Medina for some dates as well as halal meats & poultry. He bought quite a lot, as his stock at home is depleted. Lagi2 nak banyak masak for puasa ni kan.
-> Came back home, decided to call Izhar and ajak him, Tia, Pia and Zaim over to Amir's apartment for buka today. Our turn to cook!
-> Amir and I started on preparing the meal. He made lasagna! Oh and nasi goreng too. I helped out with the sides...see pictures for our buka puasa meal.
-> The other 4 arrived just nice, in time for buka and food was pretty much ready. Had the usual fun chatting and eating... the food was yummy! Kat Malaysia pun Kaklong tak buka puasa as lavish as this haha
-> Laaaater on in the night we went out to Manchester Lane, a jazz club on Flinders Lane (like so awesome, they don't even allow smoking in clubs here ok. So so so awesome). Izhar and Pia have been there before and we went to listen to some nice latin jazz, fusion songs (and watching all the orang2 tua dance). I taught Izhar, Amir and Pia some latin dance moves like salsa and cha cha cha! Then Izhar and Pia showed off with some twirls and spins on the dance floor
-> After Manchester Lane, we all came back to Izhar's house and watched a DVD (the movie '23' starring Jim Carrey... it's a psycho-thriller so mcm freaky la jugak some bits). But then one by one the others dropped asleep.. starting with Izhar haha. All I know was, when the movie ended, Pia looked up, and I looked at her, and we saw that all of the others were knocked out. Heheh.
-> At around 3am Amir and I walked back along Lygon to his house, had sahur terus and then tidooooo...

Ma and Ba! Sorrryyy lambat update!
Here are the pics from day 1, and summary:
-> Flight was ok. The super hot handsome guy we saw at the foodcourt wasn't on the same flight lah Mummy! Frust je Kaklong haha. Orang yang duduk seblah Kaklong on the flight over tua + tak hensem + tak friendly. Boring je.
-> I had sahur on the plane... in other words the minute I set foot on Melbourne, had to tahan nafsu to munch munch munch munch...
-> Upon arrival at Mlb airport I bought the Skybus ticket to the city. Took the bus to Spencer Station, where Amir was waiting for me. Arrived there at almost 8 am I think
-> Took the tram to Izhar's house. Masa sampai Izhar was already at work, Tia and Zaim still asleep, Pia just woke up.
-> I logged in to work and did some emails. Bersabar at having to refrain from grabbing the tempting box of NutriGrain on top of their fridge and dumping a whole load into a fresh cold bowl of milk.
-> Took a nap, 'cuz didn't sleep well on plane. Amir went to school.
-> Woke up, Amir came back from school. Amir pulak napped. I continued work, had a teleconference. Izhar came back, super tired from working on the first day of puasa. Terus join Amir and tido jugak.
-> Tia, Zaim and Pia went out to buy groceries from Laguna. Upon returning they started cooking for buka puasa.
-> Rested after buka, (see food we had in picture below), and then walked to QV mall down the road for Max Brenner drinks and desert *licks lips*
-> Took a tram up the road to Amir's house, dragging my suitcase along as I am sleeping at his place the whole stay. Rumah Izhar dah meriah sangat with 4 people there hehehe!
-> Lepak-lepak and borak-borak until late. Oh yeah, all of us showed off our skills and did magic tricks on each other... hahaha... it was fun!
-> Izhar had a meeting here at College Square, so he went for that and Pia, Tia and Zaim went home first.
-> I conked out and had one of the most restful, deep, uninterrupted sleep ever!
-> Oh yeah. It's still quite cold here. Sigh.

My Indon Getaway - Day 2: Jakarta/Bandung
|
|
-> I was awakened really early, around 5am, by a call from Weird. She was supposed to fly into Jakarta that morning on the first flight out of KL... but guess what her call was to tell me? That she'd just realized her passport was expiring in less than 6 months! So she was stopped at immigration and was adviced not to leave the country! Bummer! Of all things to happen... aaarh. And I'd bought her the ticket as a birthday present no less! Was soooo looking forward to her joining us there and having a grand time in Jakarta and Bandung... but what to do. Hehe... I told her she'd better renew her passport before our next holiday planned!
-> I dreadfully went back to bed to get a few more hours' sleep in, and later woke up to tell what happened to Ili and Eema. We were all torn between wanting to groan and cry at the downturn of our holiday plans together, and laugh at the typical Weird-Absent-Mindedness for overlooking her own passport expire date. Heheh.
-> Since we now no longer had to wait for Weird to arrive, Eema and I took a taxi straight to the Gambir statiion to catch our train to Bandung. Oomleo had helped get the tickets for us before we arrived (thaaaankk youuu!), but he bought three thinking Weird was gonna be there too (Ili was only going to Bandung the next day as she had made other plans with friends in Jakarta that night). I managed to sell Weird's ticket off to another guy we met at the train station though.. he looked like he was traveling for business... I asked him if he was headed to Bandung and then sold our extra ticket to him. Almost got cheated on by a couple of the porters working there at the station though... they said they'd help me find someone who'd buy my extra ticket, but turns out that in return they wanted a percentage of the money I got from selling it! Duh, I might as well find someone to sell it to myself then, don't I?? Sheesh. I shooed those guys away and told them not to be silly.
-> I'm glad we took the train ride to Bandung... we loved it! The scenery was great... and it was a nice relaxing ride in the morning.
-> Upon arrival in Bandung, we were met by Amir, a local there and a friend of most of my friends (people like Ili, of course, and the guys from the Ipoh band scene, etc). Initially I was hesitant about troubling him to come fetch us and all, but in his text messages to me he insisted it wasn't a problem so we accepted his kind offer! We came out of the train station and it wasn't hard to spot him, nor he us. Got ourselves properly introduced, and off we went into his car and the short drive to town. He was reaaaally nice and more than accomodating. Drove us to our hotel where we checked in, and then went back out again. He took us to a lovely restaurant for a delicious lunch of local dishes (Eema and I loved it!), and then drove us around to show us the area, giving recommendations on where to shop, eat, take a walk to, and so on.
-> Amir later had to leave us, towards the end of the afternoon, so Eema and I started exploring on our own. First day there and already we went cross-eyed at the amount of bargains to be found at the outlet malls! Needless to say being the bargain addict and semi-shopaholic that I am, I bought quite a bit of stuff! Haha... and best of all, this includes a pair of BABY SNEAKERS! I was in the baby section of this one store, and I saw this pair of teeeeeenyyy tiiiiiiney trainers and ohmygod they were soooo cute! I could just imagine a tiny baby rockstar-to-be wearing it haha, and it costed next to nothing so I bought them! Yes, I know, the likelihood of me having baby anytime in the near future is pretty slim, but who cares! I'm sooo keeping those shoes for my future baby boy. The more old the trainers get, the more vintage. Heheh. Hence = cool
-> We also stopped at a streetside eatery called Sam's that Amir had told us about. He said that the strawberry juice there is to die for, so we ordered those and oh yeay yummy whammy! Especially after the long walk exploring the town, it's a real refreshing kick. Mmm.. I'm craving the juice again as I write this.
-> It gets dark there pretty early, and by about 9pm everything starts to close down and it gets quiet. Eema and I were tired too, so we walked back to the hotel. Stopped at a burger stall along the way and ordered takeaway, trudged back to our rooms and ate dinner whilst watching a hillarious (unintentionally so) movie on TV about an Indonesian legend, 'cuz the storyline, acting, and special effects were highly amusing
-> Oh and another coincidence, Enchey Azman also happened to be on holiday in Indonesia at the time. He arrived in Bandung the same day we did, and dropped by our room to torment us (haha!) later that night
